Neuchâtel emigrants to Germany
Jaques Huguenin (-Virchaux) (bapt. Le Locle, 07 April 1678) and his wife, Anne-Marie Perret-Gentil (bapt. 18 November 1683) took their five small children, Susanne-Marie, Daniel, Jaques, Jean-Jaques and Marie-Madelaine on the amazingly difficult overland journey from Switzerland to East Prussia in early 1712 to resettle a region devastated by plague. Jaques died in 1759 in Goldap, a town which is now in Poland not far from the Lithuanian border. His son Jean-Jaques married another expatriate, Marie Magdalene Jeunet, in 1742. Their first son Abraham was born in Kiaulkehmen in 174, and by this time the name had been germanised to Igney - the form which exists to this day in Germany. Jaques’ line goes back via another Jaques Huguenin, ancestor of the Huguenin-Virchaux branch, to the earliest known Huguenin in the early 1400’s.
Jean Favre and his wife Anne-Marie Roulet (bapt. Noiraigue, 11 August 1678) were also among this group of emigrants. Anne-Marie’s line goes back to Blaise Roulet of Noiraigue, born before 1580.
Benjamin Huguenin (-Virchaux) (b. La Chaux-de-Fonds, 29 January 1751) married Elizabeth Wittenauer in Le Locle in 1772 and travelled to Prorzheim, Karlsruhe where their 2 daughters were born. Benjamin’s parents were Daniel Huguenin-Virchaux and Julianne Droz; his Huguenin-Virchaux line goes back to the earliest known Huguenin at the beginning of the 15th century. Two of Benjamin’s sisters, Louise (b. 15 December 1754) and Julie-Aimée (b. 1857) also made their homes in Pforzheim where they married Unk Ganguillet and Anton Thaddeus von Freyberg-Eisenberg repectively. Descendants of this branch can be found today in the US.
Edouard Huguenin (-Virchaux) (b. La Chaux-du-Milieu, 11 July 1805) entered the service of the Elector of Hesse, and took up residence in Kassel, Germany, where he married first Anna Eva Walgenbach in 1831 and later Elisabeth Beate Henriette Kaufold in 1858. One of his daughters, Maria Christina Ernestina and her husband Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Emil Seelig went to England, where their children were born and descendants of this line can also be found in the US. Edouard’s parents were Félix Huguenin-Virchaux and Marie-Charlotte Dumont; his Huguenin-Virchaux line can be traced back to the founder of the family in the early 1400’s
